Piñera estuvo los días 6 y 7 de agosto en Bogotá, donde tenía previsto asistir a la investidura de Juan Manuel Santos, a la que finalmente no acudió porque decidió regresar con antelación a Chile para visitar a las familias de los 33 obreros que siguen atrapados en una mina del norte del país.
Según el mandatario, existe información que permite ligar "el terrorismo que ha habido en la Araucanía", región del sur de Chile que concentra a la mayoría de la población indígena mapuche, la principal etnia del país, con las Farc.
El Ministerio Público trata actualmente de hacer una conexión entre la guerrilla colombiana y algunos mapuches implicados en hechos de violencia en Chile, en el marco de las reclamaciones de tierras que mantienen algunas comunidades indígenas.
"Hace algunos años, junto al senador Alberto Espina, denunciamos estos hechos, y entonces muchos negaron la evidencia. Hoy ha quedado demostrado que existe vinculación entre grupos terroristas chilenos y las Farc. Muchos deben dar hoy explicaciones", recalcó Piñera.

Santiago de Chile, 16 ago (EFE).- El presidente chileno, Sebastián Piñera, acordó con su homólogo colombiano, Juan Manuel Santos, "mantener una colaboración para terminar con los vínculos" entre activistas mapuches y las Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC), según declaraciones que publica hoy El Mercurio.

"I approached the president of Chile Santos ties with the FARC and agree to maintain a partnership to end those ties," said Sebastian Pinera.
